Mark Twain and the Temperance Movement
I didn't imagine this article to deal with women but it did. It mainly covers women actions and how they were perceived during the temperance movement.
This article discusses how when you combine women and alcohol, you get a new sort of woman. The new woman evolves. She is outspoken and determined to be her own person. The temperance movement is limiting this woman. In Mark Twains novel "standard," it covers alcohol and the temperance movement. It turns a person into a different being in which Twain believe is acceptable. He feels that we should just let them be and let the new woman be the new woman.
This article was rather short. I tried to find some irony or hidden messages in it for I tend to find them a lot but I didn't here. It was rather straight forward and to the point.
